What is the difference between Tae
Kwon Do and Karate? |
|
|
Tae Kwon
Do is Korean style karate. Our system is
significantly more advanced due to the
fact that we teach Tae Kwon Do along
with Japanese style (Shotokan), Okinawan
style, and Chinese style (Kung Fu, Wushu).
By having the integrated system, a
student is much more adaptable to
different situations when it is
necessary to defend themselves.
Tae Kwon
Do is an excellent system and is the
basic program that Kingwood Top Kick
Karate students begin in. However, as
they progress in the system, they are
taught the other styles as an integrated
program. Students receiving a black belt
in our program are extremely proficient
in all four styles. These styles are the
basis for martial arts throughout the
world today. |

|
|
How does your program differ from
others? |
|
First and
foremost, our system is based on
character development rather than what
color belt a student wears. Many schools
today that believe with a short period
of training that a seven or eight year
old is capable of receiving a black
belt. Our program believes that
accomplishing a black belt has a lot
more to do with character than the
person’s ability to kick and punch.
Memorizing basic moves is not what
accomplishes the goal of black belt in
our program. Our program, rather,
focuses on the complete development of
the individual, character of the
individual, which includes many things
such as drive, determination,
commitment, loyalty, perseverance,
pursuit of excellence, caring for
others, and leadership. These are the
qualities that each of our black belts
have attained at Kingwood Top Kick
Karate.
As
previously mentioned our program is much
more expansive and allows a student to
develop physical skills far in advance
of other programs. |

Do you require a contract?
|
|
Our
program at Kingwood Top Kick Karate has
never had contracts. Those organizations
that require you to sign a contract are
obligating your family to a financial
commitment that your child may never
receive the benefits from.
Kids in
today’s society do change their minds as
to what activities they wish to
participate in. Also, unfortunately
life’s circumstances may not allow a
family to fulfill their obligations, and
finally, once you have signed a
contract, there is little motivation for
the program to provide quality
instruction because they know that you
are going to pay for that contract
whether your child participates or not.
A quality
program does not find it necessary to
obligate a family to a contractual
commitment, but rather must maintain a
program at all times that encourages
students to continue. |

Does your owner teach classes?
|
|
It is our
belief at Kingwood Top Kick Karate that
the owner of the program should be
intimately involved in all aspects of a
student’s training and development. Most
schools rely on assistant instructors to
teach their classes while the owners of
the facility are no where to be found.
Our
program on the other hand, has the owner
fully engaged in the entire program at
all times assuring that a student
receives the best possible training
available. |
|
| |
|
|
|
Do you offer free classes?
|
|
We
offer to all new students - two
weeks free - in order to allow them the
opportunity to fully evaluate the
program before making a financial
commitment. Most schools, on the other
hand, provide one free lesson. At
Kingwood Top Kick Karate we want a
family to be fully aware of all aspects
of our program. |

How should a person choose a
Martial Arts School? |
|
It
is simple. One without contracts and one
that does not base their standards for
black belts on physical skills only.

What is a World Champion?
|
|
One
of the most unfortunate aspects of
martial arts today is the misuse of the
words “state champion,
national champion, and world
champion”.
Many programs
today claim they have world champion
instructors and students. What they
don’t tell you is that their world
championships were won in an association
that they belong to where no other
participants outside their association
are allowed to participate in. Those
programs are called closed tournament
circuits. They also fail to tell you
that international participation may
only include three or four countries
outside the US and that all of the
tournaments are held within the US or
Mexico.
Our program at Kingwood Top Kick Karate
has developed one of the finest martial
arts programs in the world. In 2004,
Kingwood
Top Kick Karate
placed 16 children on the USA National
Team which went to Switzerland to
compete at the World Championships.
Students making the USA National Team
were first required to go through the US
Trials. After making the USA National
Team they were allowed to represent
their country in competing against some
3000 competitors and some 70 countries
throughout the world.
Of the 41
medals won by the USA National Team, 33
were won by Kingwood Top Kick Karate.
We brought back 11 Gold, 15 Silver, and
9 Bronze medals. That was the largest
medal count won by any individual school
in the entire world. Some of the same
students in our program won medals in
fighting, weapons, Korean style karate,
Japanese style karate, and Chinese style
karate.
It
is unheard of in the martial arts
community today to have individuals who
are world ranked in that variety of
styles. What is most important of these
individuals however, is not 11 World
Championships and all the medals that
were won, but rather the incredible
class and character those students
demonstrated at the World Championships.
